  • How I Spent My Easter Vacation

Well, OK, it wasn’t really a vacation. It was more like a mad dash to Green Bay and back. Dan and I went to see this guy. That’s me in the middle and Dan on the right. Care to guess who the mystery man is?

We went to a concert at the beautiful Meyer Theater in Green Bay Saturday evening. It was really a wonderful show. Our friend there was in great voice and also in fine humor. He said that he did not think it was a good show because he spent too much time talking, but we love to hear his stage patter, so that was fine with us. What does he know, anyway?

We were out late last night and then got up early, went to Mass, and headed home so that we could have Easter dinner with our family at our daughter’s house. We arrived while our daughter and her family were still at the other grandma’s house, so I took advantage of the quiet to take a little nap on her couch. Did you know that sleeping 3 hours and then driving across the State of Wisconsin is very tiring?

We had a lovely Easter meal with both our kids and their families and then enjoyed watching the kids play outside. Now I am going to collapse in my bed for several hours. I wrote this on Easter evening and was so tired that I forgot to make it public!

Happy Easter, Blessed Passover, or Happy Spring, whichever applies to you!

  • Man, I would love to see Peter Noone in concert. Wow…I wish he was coming to Kentucky. Maybe I’ll go check the website later, see if he is. How was the show? What did he sing? Come on…blow by blow details!!

Sounds like a perfect Easter Sunday. Thanks for sharing.

  • Happy belated Easter.

  • You sounded like you had a wonderful Easter weekend.  It’s fun to be able to see your family and spend time doing new things.

  • a little adventure once in awhile is good for a person!

  • I’m glad you clarified which one you were in the picture because I wasn’t sure. (Just kidding in case you didn’t know).

  • Sounds like you had a great Easter! Happy belated! Have a great week, Nancy!

  • I knew he was straight away It sounds like you had a great Easter

  • Hey, thanks for being a Friend and it’s nice to see you had a good time over Easter Weekend.  As did we.

You asked about nudges.  They’re kind of silly, but they’re nice to get (and send).  I define them as “a reminder to stay in touch.”  Sort of like a friendship card, only without any distracting jokes or bad poetry.

  • Yes driving long distance is very tiring and during a so short time !

Nancy and Dan you are both well on the picture and so for the artist . Beauriful memory .
I am glad you had a great Easter Sunday in spite of your tiredness .

    Thank for your comments .

    Love         Michel

  • Ohh-oooh!  I know, I know!  Didn’t know he was in the area.  Hope you had a nice visit.  Neat picture!  Since we don’t get or see the Green Bay papers, we don’t know who is performing, unless it is advertised on TV, and sure don’t remember seeing any. The Meyer Theater doesn’t usually advertise on TV, though. How great that you got to see him.  But, that certainly was a long trip.  At least it is 4-lane all the way.  When we go to our son’s in LaCrosse, it is two lane almost all the way.  Hate that drive.

When we were younger, we were able to bounce back from too little sleep easily—but not anymore.  I become a zombie when I don’t get enough.

  • I’m stopping by to say “hello” to all of my subs & shamelessly ask for your help.  Tommorow, 4/19/06, is the thirteenth anniversary of the  tragedy in Waco.  This issue means a lot to me and though I have never been featured nor really cared about such numbers, I would like to get as much exposure for this issue as possible.  So what I am asking is that you stop by sometime tommorow and post a comment on the tribute to the Waco incident that I will post either tonight or tommorow morning.  I would really appreciate your help.  Thanks a million!

  • OOOOO, driving across Wisconsin with just 3 hours sleep, is not good!!!

I love the picture and your blog. Our mass was lovely. Father had the front row ring the bells after the Collect!!!!

  • Happy belated Easter.

  • Thanks, Nancy.  Your support is appreciated!

  • We all forget sometimes don’t we? Have a super weekend.

  • Dear Nancy – I am at a loss re: Socrates’ Swing.  Are we still involved in this write, or are we to wait for news re: what is up next?
I so enjoyed Socrates Swing and felt it quite successful, even though I found the last two posts to Mystery by that one guy a bit
disturbing/I did not appreciate his treatment of her, one bit!  Well, please keep me informed at:  wegotrhythm@yahoo.com of the next
Socrates Cafe prompt.  OK?  I am now finding the time, or shall I say, making the time, to participate!  Thanks sweetie,
    Lisa O’Hara

  • Nance, Please, please, please reconsider closing Socrates cafe.
Of course it’s difficult to mantain a balanced even=handed site where the members all behave themselves – especially if you discuss religion! But think of the benefits to them!
Maybe this will shock a few into being a little more civil

  • Hi Nancy, how are you?!

  • Sounds like you had a great time.

  • Please don’t close Socrates Cafe. I understand that it is extremely frustrating to listen to people bicker and argue when philosophy is being discussed but remember that for the one arguement there is at least ten pleasant Socratic dialouges. Please reconsider. Peace.

    -Pilgrim of Truth

  • Today is Holocaust Remembrance Day.  Education is the key to making sure nothing like that is ever allowed to happen again.  Please help spread the word on your site!

  • Nance, please reconsider your decision to close Socrates Cafe. This is one of the few places a person can air their views, ideas, feelings and mostly be accepted. Perhaps a better solution is to not have a Socrates Swing again, although the sites I’ve visited have seemed to do okay except for Mystery’s. And in that case, if someone thinks there will be comments posted on their site that they disagree with, perhaps they shouldn’t host anymore. I agree with PilgrimOfTruth that for one unpleasant exchange there are at least ten pleasant ones. It seems to me that Dario does have trouble expressing himself in english and should be allowed some leeway when he is making his arguments. Perhaps instead of deleting them, Mystery should have asked him to post them somewhere else. I don’t know the answer, I know I just want to keep the Cafe going. I’ve met such nice people on here and it is an outlet for someone who lives in the middle of the country and can’t discuss such interesting topics with most of the people around here.

Also, I believe we should treat each other with the respect we want to receive – and for the most part I think that is true of the participants of the Socrates Cafe. So I add my voice to those who are asking you to re-open the Cafe and try again.

    Blessings on all.

  • How much do you currently pay for gas?

FYI, Annie – I did ask him – repeatedly – to take his comments elsewhere.  Bottome line – it’s my site, not his or yours or the Cafe’s.  Let’s not bring that problem to Nancy’s home now, okay?

  • I hope you can figure out the password…I’ve heard xanga is bad about answering…

If you can’t get it re-opened could we not just open another site under the same name (or if you want to be humerous you can call it Plato’s Cafe) ;)   if we do have to open another site I will be willing to help you spread the word.  As long as Socratic dialouge is taking place and someone as talented as you is standing as leader I will gladly participate.

  • I wonder if Simone is ever coming back?

  • How should we respond to the nuclear conflict with Iran?

  • Any news on the password?

  • Nance1, I’m back to cyber-world now.  Thanks for extending your offer.  What would the responsibilities of a Socrates Cafe board member look like?  How would it affect one’s participation?

I hope you have a peaceful rest of the day.

  • Nancy, I will agree to be a board member if you will have me.  I must make a few things clear about my position on this:

    1) In board member discussions I have to be able to express myself fully, and to give my honest input.  I understand the importance of tact, but tact is not the same as diplomatically interacting with people at a partial level in order to keep the peace.  If you accept my offer, my participation in those discussions will be more frank than on the Cafe threads, and so it might be wise to find a private way to have those discussions.

    2) I travel a lot.  Usually only for two days or so, but that means every now and then I’m out of touch with the Internet.  I can always notify you in advance of those trips, if by in advance one day is enough time.

    3) I’m not extremely computer savvy (sp?).  I can do more than the average person, but I would not claim any programming or software expertise.  I can participate as needed, but I would need to be instructed on how to do certain things (like making links for multiple discussions).  Some do say that I’m a quick learner, however.

    4) I understand that this requires effort, time, and sacrifice.  I believe in the Cafe strongly enough that I’m willing to give those things.  But I have overextended myself in the past, and if that begins to happen again, this will have to be one commitment I would have to surrender.  I would give at least a week’s notice before dropping my responsibilities, hopefully more.

Thank you for reviewing and considering these circumstances.  If they are not a problem, then count me in.  If anything needs clarified or discussed, feel free to contact me.

  • just swinging by via the Simone site…

Being that the Socrates Cafe is based on the book Simone referred to, a possible new blogring could still reflect that in the name, if it was the group’s intention to stick with the original parameters…

sorry things have been a bit ‘chaotic’ at the cafe… hmmm, I was just getting back into writing with the group again, only to found in on a hiatus of sorts

    otherwise, have a wonerful weekend!

  • Nancy – so glad you are offering Socrates Cafe to everyone.  Again, my offer stands good.  Let me know if, in any way, I can be of  assistance….Thanks, Lisa.

  • Well I sure wonder why I never get your updates in my sub list. I keep forgetting to drop in then. And I’m sorry I didn’t know the guy either.

  • Due to so many requests, the Socrates Cafe is resuming activity.  Since you have been a member in the past, we would like you to participate once again.  In order to rejuvenate the blog ring, members inactive since February 1st on their own site will be removed from the membership list unless they visit Simone_De_Beauvoir and comment, ‘I will participate.’  Please review the FAQ’s on Simone’s site so we can get off on a good start again.  If you have been posting on your own site, there is no need to leave a comment at this time.  Thanks so much for your interest and involvement, and may the Socrates Cafe be a pleasant and productive experience for all involved.”

  • RYC–Sweety, thank you for explaining that. It wasn’t clear and quite frankly, the note was insulting. Like I said, it needs to be worded better. It still reads like a demand to come answer or be expelled from the group. I’m over myself now. But if someone can just suggest rewording that a little so that it’s more clear what it means. Would be more of an invitation and less of an ultimatum.
