Ode to a Would-Be Poet
(Or – a Wood-Be Poet) (Thanks twoberry!)I think that I shall never see
A poem as lovely as a tree.At least not written by the likes of me!
Verbose I am, as you can see!A poem paints its lovely scene
With words so sparse, though never mean. But I must elaborate, vocabulate.
Please, can’t you commiserate?A poem whose picture the artist doth paint
With graceful words – well, mine just ain’t!Sentences I love, and paragraphs,
With punctuation, just for laughs! So prose it is, prose it will be,
No poem as lovely as a tree.Too many verses have I here
For words I like, I hold them dear.Economy of language is not my thing
Tho’ with poetry I may take a fling! This poem was made by a fool, you see,
And only God can make a tree!

chuckle, better than I could do!
The last sentence is very funny
If only my dad were alive to read this!! His nickname for me was “Windy”!!! LOL ~;)
“I thought that I’ll never see
Such a disgusting lavatory”
The above was written on the wall at a poetry society H/Q!
Sorry, moved on with my blog, moved to Wales and the Welsh miners, and the death of one right in front of me.
Oh dear, I must do cheerful on my poem a day site!
Thank you for your kind comments, sorry I have involved your blog within my sorry story, but that’s the way my cookie crumbles.
What a cute poem! I like it!
Take care and have a lovely weekend!
i have made trees out of rolled up newspapers .. quite nice they were when painted up
That’s great
Not bad at all!
I remember as a young kid that poem…but only remembered the 1st 2 lines…do you think this was the start of a faction “treehuggers”?…lol…
great poem
I’d have titled it “Ode to a Wood-Be Poet,” but that’s me. Here’s kudos for a humdinger of a blog.
Ha ha Twoberry is great fun!
Enjoyed reading this again Nancy.

I feel kinship with the kindling
burning quick to light another
all ash and over and failure
to flame
