  • God is not running for President. Nor is He endorsing either of the candidates, although it certainly sounds like it sometimes. I will be really glad when the election is over. I am tired of all the rhetoric that says that one candidate is better than the other based on religious criteria. That is not what the United States is about.

I do believe in God and I practice my religion. It happens to be the same religion as one of the candidates. However, I do not think that that makes him a better or a worse candidate. I do not think it should be an issue at all. Encouraging someone to vote based on religion is just another way of saying, “Do not think. Just do as you are told.” There are too many people these days who are willing to do that.

It’s not about whether or not disapproving of the war is the same thing as not supporting the troops over there, either. Those are unrelated topics. I have come to believe that the war was a mistake, but I certainly do believe that the troops who are caught in it deserve all the suppport we can possibly give them. I fear that they are not getting it. Whether we like the war or not, we cannot walk away from it now. I think every thinking person knows that. We can, however, change our approach and I think that needs to happen.

I would love to see an honest discussion of what each candidate would do to improve things for the citizens of the U.S. That almost happened in one of the debates. Almost. You’d think such topics would be important, wouldn’t you, but apparently they are not.

At least it will be over in a week.

  • Yeah, I’m pretty sick of it too.  And you are right, both candidates have been talking almost entirely about why we shouldn’t vote for the other guy, instead of sticking to the issues.  That’s why the really good men who could give a lot to this nation will never run for president.

  • Even in Singapore the Bush/Kerry debate was watched with lots of interest. It looks like a close race.

  • Never mind only a few more days now . We get all about the election here and we do not get to vote

  • I will so glad when it’s all over. My DH is very worked up about it all – me, I’m bored!

  • yes Nancy the religion must not be mixed with politic because the reasons you give ? I add this kills the religion later .

About the war in Iraq , it ‘ s a mess for the poor troups that are there and for the inhabitants . An intelligent solution has to be find and not only by the  US . But you are right to support the troups . They have been commanded to go there . Hopeful for a better future .

As always your reasons are well balanced

    Love        Michel

  • I am not as you know a believer, but if I was I would be highly offened at the way Bush won’t deny he was put into the White House by no other but God.

Blasphemy I would call it, and so I am sure would a lot of Christians. Imagine if Saddam had said he was god’s prophet! How long would he of then lasted?

Why do Christians take that Muslems won’t?

  • And all those billions they waste on boring the asses off of TV viewers!

To think that people are dying in this world because of poverity. What does America show a world of near-starvation by such sheer waste of money?

  • I agree with everything you said…it is the way I feel, too. I would also like to see less negative campaigning. I think I can tell what is wrong with each candidate; I would rather know what is right about each candidate, and what plans they have for our country. I don’t understand the rhetoric that says speaking your mind is being unAmerican. I thought that was what America is all about.

  • Lovely post. I agree with a lot of it -well said!

  • Xanga has not notified me of your entry.

I’m afraid even though the election will soon be over the residual is not going to be good.

  • Its a big thing, deciding who will run America. Who will lead the free world. Cool pair to choose from, eh?

  • Oh, Nancy!!!

I totally agree with you!!!!  You wouldn’t believe how it is here!!!

Even an ex-boyfriend called me up the other day to casually ask how I was doing, and then, he just totally started in on me about how if I didn’t vote for the right person God was going to hold me accountable for it!

Geez!  Yes, that is the kind of mentality we have to put up with almost everywhere here!!!  It’s so NOT fair!

    Hugs!!

  • I so agree – very well said

  • It is all about getting the vote by any means necessary! Yes, I too, will be glad when it is over. It makes me almost glad we will be able to get back to the sex scandals and brutal murder issues for news!!!

  • There is a saying in French, but I can’t remember it, something like The more everything changes the more it stays the same…

Changing the CEO does change the functionaries or the policies, things take a long time to filter down and then only do if there are ppl of good will, otherwise its the more everything…

  • Glad you got the postcard!

I didn’t do an absentee ballot and I am stuck in Seattle so I am guessing I will not be able to vote. I am not happy about that because I feel like a bad citizen when I don’t vote.

    Take care!

  • It IS sad that the campaign has been so negative on both sides, and it will be sadder yet when my next prediction comes true:  that there will be bitter battles in some states over whether the votes were counted properly, etc.  Reminiscent of Florida 2000.  I’d rather see a landslide in favor of the candidate I oppose, than what I think is coming.

  • Hey Nancy!
