  • The Wisdom of Ages

    When I was young
    My elders said
    “I’ve learned by living,
    Listen to me.”

    I nodded and smiled,
    But in my head
    A little voice said,
“Yeah, right, what do you know?”

    Back then, I thought,
    “I know it all,
    I’m smart, you see,
    You can’t tell me!”

Then I was older, out of school,
And I kept waiting for that magic rule
Measuring me grown up and wise
And ready to give my own advice.

Now here I am, The “Older Generation”
    Waiting in vain for inspiration
Wondering why, after all these years,
I’m still not wise, I still have fears.

Now I wonder, indeed, I ponder,
If those wise folks of long ago
Really felt wise and all grown up
Or were only putting on a gigantic show!

  • Well said in rhymes , Nancy . Yes it is not sure we were wiser when we are older . Mind and heart are always young . And it ‘ s well , I think . However  we have more patience and experience , probably .

    Bravo for the poem .

    Love            Michel

  • Liked your poem!  It reminds me of a song my son wrote and recorded.  In his, he starts out…when I was a young boy, I’d sit on my Grandpa’s knee and he would share his wisdom with me.  I have garbled it, but you get the idea.

  • Love the poem… it’s so very true! Thanks for sharing it with us!

  • poem..words of the heart..well newaz have a good weekend ~*random propz*~

  • nice poem have a good weekend

  • What a timely poem, especially as my mother and I have been having problems relating and undersanding each other. All of it has left me wondering who is the parent and who is the child ? Thanks for coming by with the Christmas wishes. Our pc has been bombarded with a lethal spyware causing it to slow down and myself unable to post on Xanga *sigh*

Have a great year ahead !

  • It is a timely poem for the turn of the year as we all get older . I agree with Michel we all still think of ourselves as young mind and heart

  • Loved the poem! And how true it is.

ryc: Yes we are definitely cool.

  • The poem is grand and so are you!!!!!

  • Don’t think I will ever have wisdom.

  • Greetings Nance1. Thanks for your comment. Out here we’re all about being scenic. I hope you like the pics of my house. What do you think of it?

  • where is the snow!?!?!?!

  • ryc: Yeah I guess you’re right. It is just mail. I wish I could just get over it and fill things out and move on with my life. Once I finally make the switch I will probably be just fine.

By the way I was wondering how did you manage to index your entries on the side? I want to do that as well, but have no idea how.

  • ryc: I know where to got to edit custom module. But, I don’t know how to write in the link. Do I just copy what it says in address on the comment page of the link I want? And what do I write to make sure there is a break so it doesn’t all run together? Thanks.

  • that was awesome and very true at that. and yes, the writing was very helpful to me. thank you for your kind words … it meant a lot. hopefully i will see more of you. i would love to start talking to you now. you seem like a cool person.

  • ryc: Thanks for all the advice on how to do links on the left module! Will be trying to do that tonight. One question, in the quotes when you put the example of how to write the address of the link you add something about last entry – do I add that to each one? Anyhow, thanks again!

  • Scratch that last question I got it to work! Thank you so so much!

  • Cobwebs would be a great choice for curtains! Mine came from Paris. I head to special order them. Costs a little more but totally worth it!

  • Older and somewhat wiser but I sure wouldn’t want to tell someone else what to do or how to live. I just try not to repeat the same mistakes twice.

  • Wisdom will never be ours. I am as foolish now as I was at 12.
